eBOOK Description
This free ebook is written for the power user. Power users want the most out of their system: the most speed, the most glitz, the most sounds, or the most security. This free ebook shows how to do just that.
Although you don't have to be a programmer to get the most out of this free ebook, you should be familiar with Linux and how to edit files. In particular, knowing how to download, install, and use the basic operating system is a must. You should be familiar enough with the Linux bash shell to create and traverse directories, search for applications, read man pages, and edit system files using whatever editor you are most familiar with. You should be familiar with commands like grep, find, and sudo.
This free ebook does not completely encompass all the things you can do with Ubuntu. For most of the applications covered, there are dozens of alternate tools. And even the tools covered contain additional options and settings for doing more things than described here. The goal of this free ebook is to show you some of the tricks, hacks, and tweaks that you can do with the system so you can better customize it to your needs. I fully expect people to build on and extend these hacks.

I have read numerous books but this one is to basic to be of any use.
Part 1 to 4 is al stuff that is covered in the ubuntu manual basicly there is a short set of how to tweak firefox but it isnt going into great detail.
Alot of the stuff is oriented to make the system more fancy than usefull
Finaly in chapter 10 we get to see some basic shell hacks but the backgroundinfo is as little as would require so you don't learn alot of it.
You learn where you can hack but not the advantage or disadvantage.
De book is based on dapper wich means its old since there been 2 release however this shouldn't be a problem since the book covers the same ground you can still find in the newer releases.
Al in all I find this book of litle use as a person who wants its system secure, the only parts that I find are basic like lockdown procedures
To conclude
This book is mostly written for the person that wants to use his pc for desktop use with the most style.
Little information is given how to optimize the system performance based rather it shows how to make sure it eats alot of memory.
Server users like myself should skip this book as nothing written here is of any serious advantage.
This might sound alot of negative but the book only goes on basic level of alot of topics rather than deep in a few.
